Altnagelvin Health Projects

mha have a long running, working relationship with the Western Health & Social Care Trust and have carried out several phases of works to Altnagelvin Hospital. These include:
  • Tower block building – Upgrading and internal fit-out of Ward 8.
  • Tower block building – Upgrading and internal fit-out of Ward 7.
  • Tower block building – Upgrading and internal fit-out of Ward 6.
  • Upgrading of fire doors and improvements to the link building between the High Dependency Unit (HDU) & the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Upgrading of the facilities in the hospital’s Catheterization Laboratory Unit.
The Tower Block refurbishment schemes included internal finishes replacement with minor layout changes and new staff bases and facilities being provided. There was also the complete overhauling of the Ward’s mechanical infrastructure. These mechanical works involved the complete replacement of all mains hot and cold water infrastructure withing the Wards while ensuring adjencent floor levels remained open and operational. All existing pipework, blind ends and dead legs were removed from the system with the pipework connected to the mains, hot (flow & return) and cold supply infrastructure located in the service riser. The entire electrical system within the Ward’s were also upgraded to reduce the risk of an electrical failure which could result in the loss of power to critical clinical areas. This works included all distribution boards & protective devices, circuits, fire alarm systems, fire dampers, access control systems, ICT systems, vacuum transfer systems, nurse call systems and medical gas system being upgraded or replaced. The works also included for the installation of new cable and high specification containment for full separation of electrical systems (LV / ELV).
