Michael Herron Offices

About Us

The architectural practice mha was established in 1991 by chartered architect Michael Herron. The practice is based in Coalisland, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland, within the central provincial Mid Ulster Council area.

From it’s foundation the practice has sought to deliver innovative designs and quality buildings to meet and exceed our clients’ expectations. Having an extensive record of working with both private and public sector clients to deliver a vast range of projects within the UK & Ireland, mha, are experienced in forming and managing bespoke design teams to deliver successful projects on time and to budget.

mha strives to offer a tailored service to its clients and provide design expertise in architecture, planning and landscaping for both new build and refurbishment projects. Our designs originate from thoughtful consideration and understanding of our client’s specific needs and requirements, while also carrying out detailed analysis to address wider contextual issues of the project, which include the financial, social and environmental circumstances.

mha can also act as contract administrator for schemes and are able to offer contractual advice on specific project requirements while also providing comprehensive cost control facilities and project manager duties.

Why use mha?

mha is a friendly and approachable architectural practice based in Mid-Ulster and working on projects throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland. All our design work is supervised by our chartered staff and this applies equally to small domestic projects through to larger, phased developments.

We pride ourselves in the personal approach we have towards our clients and their projects and allocate a dedicated design team to each scheme. This allows our clients to liaise directly with their allocated contact within mha to ensure information and requests can be responded to promptly should the need arise or address any queries they might have.

We believe the foundation to providing high-quality design and service to our clients is to ensure our staff are qualified and complete regular training in broad and specialist areas. An importance is placed on the continuing professional and personal development of our team. This is achieved by staff attending in-house CPD presentations and external conferences and events which keep our office up to date with the current legislation, regulations and industry developments.

The practice’s architects are chartered members of the Royal Institute of British Architects with key members of staff also being members of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland and the AECB (Association for Environment Conscious Building). We also have staff qualified in specialist areas including Health and Safety, CDM and Project Management.

With over 25 years experience we have worked on a broad range of projects including residential developments, commercial schemes, public buildings, sporting venues and healthcare facilities. We offer a free initial consultation service to discuss the aspects of your proposed project and can advise on the way forward to make your aspirations a reality.

Design Philosophy

“Good buildings come from good people and all problems are solved by good design” Stephen Gardiner

As an architectural practice our design philosophy is to incorporate our clients’ needs and aspirations within a well considered and practical project. From a scheme’s inception and our initial conversations with a client we seek to understand the requirements of a project in order to produce a creative and successful solution.

We do not adhere to a particular style but instead, regardless of size or scale, we approach each project with an open mind. Through a combination of imaginative thinking, hand sketching, drawings, computer modelling and visualisations we seek to use our clients’ brief as a fulcrum for the design in order to produce a building which will intrigue and delight while also being functional and appropriate.

Similarly we strive to keep informed with technological advances in the construction industry, and further afield, to ensure we produce environmental sensitive and low energy buildings which can be enjoyed for generations to come. This stance is marked by giving careful consideration to the specifications of materials and chosen construction methods for each scheme.

We appreciate the financial constraints and realities which exist within construction projects and therefore seek to produce schemes which are cost effective and offer value. We place high importance on ensuring schemes are delivered to budget and on time.
